Movies, movies, films, and more movies
So thanks to Blockbuster online my movie addiction has been overfed. I have managed to go see a couple movies in the theater as well though. I know, amazing considering I am almost always with my Zoebear. I did not expect a lot out of the Reaping but went to see it since my sister loves horror and wanted to see it. I think since my expectations were so low I actually found it entertaining, AT FIRST that is. The last 30 min however really sent the film spiraling down out of the control making it feel somewhat like a plague on me. A definate renter only.
I just saw Disturbia and again had low expectations. Though it did seem to slow down in the begining I found myself holding my breath by the end. There were some jump out of your skin thrills that left you laughing at yourself for screaming out loud. One was so unexpected the guy in front of me leapt at least two feet in the air. I also found some part well thought out and the humor was witty. I am not saying this is an award winner but I walked away feeling I got my money worth and very entertained. I would suggest going to the movies for this fun flick.
Has anyone seen any good or bad movies lately? I would love some advice on what to see and what not to see.
Now onto rentals. I rented the first three episodes of The Tudors and I LOVED IT! Now I am in love with midevil times or similar time periods and all stories related. The acting is excellent for a TV series and I can’t wait to see future episodes. The scenery and costumes are incredible. Sometimes I wish I could dress like that everyday, I may just have to host a dress up party with a midevil theme.
The pursuit of Happiness starring Will Smith was wonderful as we all knew it would be and I did cry but I was surprised I only cried once. At points I was frustrated that he would put his son through that but then there are scenes where you can see he just wants what is best for his son and he really wants to give him everything he can. Not to mention Will Smith is just adorable.
I just saw Bobby directed by Emilio Estevez and was only mildly entertained. There were some great parts but overall it was average. It did make me wish we could have a presidential candidate these days as empassioned as Bobby Kennedy.
I actually saw Eragon on the big screen and it was a horrible mistake. One of the worst movies I have EVER seen, so bad I wish I could actually get that time of my life back. Its quite sad because the book was excellent.
Rocky Balboa, a movie I rented just because it seemed like I had seen everything else, and what can I say, wow. It was heart felt, touching, and it sent a wonderful message that just because you are aging doesn’t mean you still don’t have an incredible life ahead of you. I am not at all into fighting movies and really didn’t care for the previous Rocky movies but this film stepped away from the traditional feel of the Rocky movies and really exposed some raw emotions. Again, not a movie thats going to change the face of film but surprisingly entertaining.
Casino Royale was supposed to be this great Bond film but I was not impressed. It was all over the place and I just didn’t find any chemistry with the new bond. And how many times has Bond been betrayed by a female? Is anyone else tired of this predictable plot line? Though it was not as bad as Eragon it was pretty pathetic and a big let down.
Harsh Times was harsh to watch. For the first hour you are left wondering what the plot is even about and then when it finally starts coming together you just look forward to it ending. I just kept wondering why I was watching a couple of unemployed losers get drunk and high every day while they cruise around town. The best thing I can say for this movie is that the climax was entertaining. Its an ending I wasn’t expecting and I always like that since I seem to predict how most movies will end.
I saw Stranger Than Fiction when it was in theaters but just rented it again and was impressed all over again. This is one of the top films I have seen over this past year and deserves a ton of praise. It makes me want to be a baker, lol! You have to see it, you will definately get swept up in it. This movie was so enchanting I will end on it. Though I have seen so many more I think this post has run on long enough.
Please, leave me some comments with great movies I must see. I will keep you updated on movies I watch and my opinion. Oh yeah, and as always you need to watch my favorite movies, Anne of Gables (the entire series). Life doesn’t get more beautiful than that.
P.S. Thanks for all the really nice emails supporting my direction change with my art. I am taking my time with this move. Its important to me that I develop a strong and distinct vision that is my own and original. I have gotten a lot of emails asking about some of my old work and wanting to purchase some. I appreciate the support and interest but a lot of that art was unoriginal and not who I want to be. I know fantasy art may not be what everyone is into but at this point I need to move in that direction. Its like how they tell a writer that to be a good writer you must write about what you know and love. I even read fantasy so it seems only right I put my focus there to help develop uique work.
Book update: Believe it or not I have not read Harry Potter 5! Thats my newest book project. With book seven coming out in July I need to get 5 and 6 all wrapped up quickly.
Thanks for the movie recommendations. Your art is beautiful! Kathy I.
