Great Excitement….
over some new work! So I have talked often about how I do not feel inspired when I paint some of the little girl art I have done in the past and I have given up on them. The problem is the art I am drawn to and inspired by is pop surrealism and often features big eyed girls. I am in love with Ryden’s work and also a fan of his favorite gal Marion Peck, Kukula, Lori Earley (a personal favorite), and so many more. How can these artists be the people I look up to and who inspire me yet I seem to lack all inspiration myself. Thats when I was reading an interview with Ryden and he stated a tid bit about oil being his all time favorite medium. I had tried to do a sexy siren doll series with acrylic and it felt very 2D and did not achieve the feel I wanted. I know a lot of artists are doing the little girl art and most of it for me feels rushed and typical. My work always felt the same way so with great frustration I kept feeling like I needed to give up the task and focus on my animal ink drawings since they seemed to produce the results I wanted.
I have toyed with the thought of painting in oil before but due to having a three year old and the extended dry time and the plight of paint thinner around a child I always stayed away. Finally last night after Zoe went to bed I gave it a try. I am in LOVE!! I tried one of the sexy siren pieces and though the painting is far from complete I am so excited It has the exact feeling I want so far! I was so happy I wanted to share photos of the work in progress. I would love any feedback. Sorry about the lighting I took them late at night.
I love this! Do you have a completed picture of this??
